Job Summary

This high-level leadership role involves directing Department V of the German Environment Agency (UBA), overseeing approximately 476 employees across 31 specialized units in Dessau-Roßlau and Berlin. As a member of the agency's executive management, you will lead the German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt) and shape interdisciplinary research in climate protection and energy transition. The day-to-day responsibilities include providing scientific policy advice to federal ministries (BMUKN, BMWK, and the Foreign Office), managing complex regulatory processes like EU emissions trading and CBAM, and representing German environmental interests in national and international committees. This position is unique for its significant influence on European climate policy and its role at the intersection of science, law, and administration. The role offers a modern working environment with flexible mobile work options and a focus on socio-ecological transformation, initially starting with a two-year probationary period before transitioning to a permanent appointment.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master, Diploma, or State Examination) in Law or Administrative Sciences. A doctorate (PhD) is preferred.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in a leadership or executive position
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the fields of climate protection and energy
  • At least 5 years of experience in public administration, preferably at the federal level
  • Extensive experience in dealing with companies, business associations, and media
  • Proven experience in multidisciplinary cooperation and international networking
  • Experience in managing regulatory and scientific transformation processes
