Job Summary

This role involves working for the District Office of Unterallgäu (Landratsamt Unterallgäu) under the Government of Swabia, focusing on technical environmental protection. As an Environmental Protection Engineer, you will be responsible for air quality control, noise and vibration protection, plant safety, and waste management legislation. Your day-to-day activities include participating in permit procedures under the Federal Immission Control Act, conducting on-site plant inspections, and reviewing technical reports. You will also provide expert advice to citizens and plant operators while handling technical complaints. This position offers a highly varied field of activity within a public authority, allowing for independent work in a qualified team. It is a fixed-term position until October 2027, initially full-time and later transitioning to part-time, making it a unique opportunity to gain comprehensive experience in German environmental administration and regulatory enforcement.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Diplom-Ingenieur FH, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Engineering) in Technical Environmental Protection, Environmental Engineering, or a related field such as Physical Technology, Applied Chemistry, or Mechanical Engineering with an environmental focus.

Experience

  • Professional experience in technical environmental protection, either in public administration or the private sector, is preferred.
  • Experience in participating in official permit procedures and building law processes.
  • Practical experience in on-site plant monitoring and technical report verification.
  • Experience in providing technical consultation to citizens and business operators.
  • Proven ability to perform field service/site visits, even under challenging conditions.

  • Valid Class B driver's license is mandatory. Must be capable of performing field work/site visits. Position is based in Mindelheim. Fixed-term contract until October 11, 2027 (Full-time until January 12, 2027, then 80% part-time).
