Job Summary

This role at the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Materials Recycling and Resource Strategies IWKS focuses on developing sustainable, circular technologies for magnetic materials and electric motor recycling. As a Technical Associate, you will be responsible for the end-to-end experimental process, including the planning and execution of material technology trials. Daily tasks involve melt metallurgy processes such as induction and arc furnace melting, as well as powder metallurgy techniques like grinding, sifting, and pressing. You will also perform heat treatments, including sintering and annealing, while ensuring the maintenance of specialized laboratory equipment. This position is ideal for professionals who enjoy a mix of hands-on laboratory work and technical documentation within an interdisciplinary research environment. Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as a Chemical Laboratory Assistant, Physics Laboratory Assistant, or in the fields of Metallurgy or Process Engineering. Further qualification as a State-Certified Technician or Master Craftsman (Meister) is an advantage.

Experience

  • Several years of professional experience in a chemical or physical laboratory
  • Practical experience in melt metallurgy or powder metallurgy processes
  • Experience in creating technical reports and presentations
  • Proven track record of independent and structured work in interdisciplinary teams

Additional

  • Location: Hanau (Greater Frankfurt/Aschaffenburg area). Position is initially limited to a two-year contract with the intention of long-term employment. Standard working week is 39 hours with part-time options available.
