Job Summary

As the Group Lead for Quantum Technologies at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ), you will spearhead a specialist team dedicated to advancing quantum computing (QC) and its integration with high-performance computing (HPC) systems. Your daily responsibilities involve driving the conceptualization of new tools, managing a broad portfolio of resources including quantum simulators and remote hardware access, and providing scientific consultancy to the international research community. You will be responsible for fostering an inclusive team environment, mentoring staff, and benchmarking performance against global standards. This role is unique for its position at the intersection of academic excellence and cutting-edge infrastructure, offering the chance to shape Bavaria as a global quantum hotspot. You will work with Top 500 supercomputers and innovative hardware to build unique solutions for end-users, ensuring the center remains at the forefront of the digital transformation in science.

Required Skills

Education

PhD, Master’s, or equivalent degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or another natural or technical science. A Ph.D. in computer science or a similar field is preferred.

Experience

  • Professional leadership experience required
  • Proven research experience in the field of quantum computing
  • Experience building and managing large-scale scientific initiatives
  • Experience with agile methodologies in a research or technical environment
  • Demonstrated success in community engagement and customer service within a technical context

  • The position is a full-time, permanent contract (unlimited) based in Garching near Munich. Candidates must be able to work within a flexible model that includes home office options. Remuneration follows the TV-L E14 salary scale.
