Job Summary

As the Head of IT Services for the Bremen Police, you will lead a critical department responsible for the functionality, planning, and development of all police IT procedures and infrastructure. Your day-to-day responsibilities include ensuring IT security, managing the operational readiness of IT systems as essential tools for law enforcement, and overseeing personnel development and budgeting. You will drive IT project management and process optimization using ITIL frameworks. This role is unique as it offers a crisis-proof position within a major public institution, supporting over 3,000 employees who ensure the safety of 570,000 citizens. Required Skills

Education

University degree (Bachelor's minimum) in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Geoinformatics, Media Informatics, Engineering, or Natural Sciences. Equivalent professional qualifications and experience also accepted.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in Information Technology (if holding a degree in Natural Sciences or Engineering)
  • Minimum 5 years of professional IT experience (if applying via vocational training route)
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience required for non-degree applicants
  • Proven experience in leading IT projects and managing personnel
  • Practical experience in IT process modeling and analysis

Languages

German (Fluent)

Additional

  • German language proficiency at C1 level is mandatory. Foreign degrees must include a German translation and evaluation from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB/ANABIN). Applicants must be eligible for public service employment; future civil servant status (Verbeamtung) is possible subject to legal requirements.
