Job Summary

As a Forensic Biologist for the State Office of Criminal Investigation (LKA NRW), you will play a critical role in solving serious crimes through serological and DNA analysis. Your day-to-day responsibilities involve searching for, securing, and analyzing biological traces such as blood, secretions, and tissue using molecular biological methods like STR-DNA analysis. You will be responsible for establishing automated liquid handling systems, managing database-driven samples, and providing expert testimony in court. This position is unique as it includes a specialized training program to become a certified forensic expert, starting at pay grade TV-L E13 with potential advancement to E14. You will work within a highly professional, accredited laboratory environment (ISO 17025) that is part of the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes, contributing directly to public safety and the justice system in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or equivalent in Biology with a focus on Genetics or Molecular Biology; a Doctorate (PhD) is required to demonstrate independent scientific research capability.

Experience

  • Professional experience in molecular genetics or forensic DNA analysis
  • Experience in independent scientific research (e.g., via a Doctorate/PhD)
  • Preferred: 2+ years of professional experience in molecular genetics post-doctorate
  • Experience with automated sample processing and high-throughput laboratory organization
  • Experience in validating liquid handling systems
  • Experience in drafting scientific expert reports for legal proceedings
