Job Summary

This role involves working within the Trier Police Department's Criminal Investigation Unit, specifically in the IT Forensics department. As an IT Forensic Specialist, you will provide critical investigative support by securing and analyzing digital evidence from technical devices and complex IT infrastructures. Your day-to-day responsibilities include data recovery, evaluation of technical exhibits, and the preparation of detailed expert reports for use in court. You will also provide tactical IT advice during police operations, particularly regarding internet-related crimes, and participate in police training initiatives. This position is highly unique as it offers a transition into a permanent civil servant status (Beamtenverhältnis) for qualified candidates after one year. It provides a secure, varied work environment within a motivated team, offering the chance to apply high-level technical skills to public safety and criminal justice in a role that combines technical expertise with investigative fieldwork.

Required Skills

Education

University degree in Information Technology (e.g., Bachelor of Science or Diploma in Computer Science/Business Informatics) OR a vocational IT qualification with advanced technical training (e.g., Certified Technician) OR vocational training as an IT Specialist (Fachinformatiker) with extensive experience.

Experience

  • Long-term professional experience in the IT sector required if applying with a vocational qualification
  • Experience in the investigation and securing of digital evidence
  • Professional experience in technical reporting or acting as an expert witness in court is beneficial
  • Experience with various operating systems and network infrastructures
  • Experience in tactical IT consulting or cybercrime investigations is preferred
