Job Summary

This role is for a dedicated Technical Assistant or Laboratory Technician to join the Jena Microbial Resource Collection (JMRC) at the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology (Leibniz-HKI). The successful candidate will play a crucial part in the development of new anti-infectives by conducting essential laboratory work. Core responsibilities include the cultivation, identification, and preservation of bacteria and fungi, as well as testing and evaluating novel compounds and extracts for their antimicrobial efficacy using panel assays against pathogenic strains. Furthermore, the role involves providing technical support to the National Reference Center for Invasive Mycoses (NRZMyk), specifically in molecular diagnostics (PCR/Sequencing) and resistance testing of human pathogenic fungi. Applicants must have completed professional training as an MTA, BTA, or Laboratory Technician, demonstrating high diligence, experience with sensitive molecular procedures, and the ability to meticulously handle pathogenic microorganisms.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as a Medical Technical Assistant (MTA), Biological Technical Assistant (BTA), or certified Laboratory Technician.

Experience

  • Professional experience in performing highly sensitive molecular procedures
  • Experience in handling and differentiating pathogenic microorganisms (or willingness to learn these procedures)
  • Professional experience ensuring reliability and diligence when handling pathogenic microorganisms and creating datasets
  • Experience or interest in Quality Management processes
