Job Summary

The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is seeking multiple Consultants/Specialists to join the 'Sovereign Biometrics' department in Bonn. This critical role involves ensuring the secure and efficient implementation and processing of biometric features in sovereign domains, such as passport, identification, and border control systems. Day-to-day tasks include evaluating the security and performance of biometrics systems, managing development and piloting projects with national security agencies and industry partners, and coordinating technical requirements internationally. Depending on the specific position, responsibilities may focus on specifying technical guidelines using formats like BPMN, XML, and JSON, or supporting software implementation and testing for sovereign biometrics applications. Candidates must hold a relevant Master's degree in IT, Engineering, or Mathematics and possess strong German (C1) and good English (B2) language skills, contributing directly to Germany's cybersecurity landscape.

Required Skills

Education

Completed or soon-to-be-completed university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Computer Science, Technical Informatics, IT Security, Physics, Mathematics, Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, IT Management, or Business Informatics.

Experience

  • Experience in biometrics (ideal)
  • Experience in requirement specification for technical systems and processes (ideal)
  • Experience in software development based on agile principles and methods (ideal)

Additional

  • Must agree to undergo an extended security clearance check (§ 9 SÜG). Willingness to travel regularly for multi-day business trips (approx. 15-20 days per year). Foreign educational qualifications require proof of equivalence from the ZAB (Central Office for Foreign Education).
