Job Summary

The Plant Ecology Group at the University of Tübingen is seeking two highly motivated PhD students to join the SAGE Centre, a global climate initiative funded by the DAAD focused on sustainable resource management in the Middle East. These roles involve crucial research investigating potential tipping points in rangelands due to climate change (drought) and how these are moderated by management (grazing) and biodiversity. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring plant and/or animal abundance, diversity, and ecosystem functional variables, coordinating data collection with international colleagues in Jordan and Palestine, and conducting extensive fieldwork. Candidates must possess above-average MScs in ecology or a related field, strong expertise in experimental design, advanced biostatistics, and excellent English communication skills. This position offers the opportunity to be part of the SAGE Research School, providing tailored training and interdisciplinary supervision within an international, highly collaborative environment.

Required Skills

Education

Above-average Master of Science (MSc) in (Geo-)Ecology or a related field

Experience

  • Experience in field work and experimental design
  • Very good knowledge of plants and/or animals
  • Ability to spend extended periods in the field
  • Keen interest and ability to work in an international and highly inter- and transdisciplinary environment
