Job Summary

This role involves contributing directly to the digitalization of the German railway system (Deutsche Bahn) by focusing on radio network and frequency planning for operational mobile communication sites (GSM-R, FRMCS), particularly within the scope of route planning, projects, and ETCS programs (e.g., Digital Rail Germany). Day-to-day tasks include core radio network planning, analyzing the GSM-R air interface during QoS measurements on ETCS routes, and coordinating optimization measures with public mobile operators to eliminate interference. The specialist will also conduct radio measurements for troubleshooting and optimization, manage parameter changes in the GSM-R network, and handle frequency planning, including international coordination. Key requirements include a degree in telecommunications or electrical engineering, knowledge of measurement technology, and ideally, experience with radio network planning tools like Atoll or Pegaplan. The position requires strong German language skills and a willingness to travel nationwide for site inspections.

Required Skills

Education

University or technical college degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering (with a focus on Telecommunications), Physics, or a comparable field. Alternatively, an electrical engineering apprenticeship with several years of professional experience in the required field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the field of radio network and frequency planning (Alternative to degree)
  • Experience working with radio network planning tools (Atoll, Pegaplan or similar) (Ideally)
  • Knowledge of measurement technology and measurement procedures
