Job Summary

This permanent, full-time Research Associate role at the Günter-Köhler-Institute for Joining Technology and Materials Testing (ifw Jena) focuses on applied research within Additive Manufacturing (AM). The core responsibilities involve planning and executing complex experiments utilizing powder bed fusion (PBF-LB) and material extrusion (MEX, MBJ) techniques, specifically targeting metallic materials. The associate will be crucial in optimizing these AM processes for successful industrial implementation. Key duties also include supporting the application and execution of publicly funded research projects, rigorously documenting findings, and actively transferring knowledge through publications, conferences, and internal teaching activities. Candidates must hold a successful technical degree in areas such as Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Laser Technology and demonstrate applicable written and oral English skills, coupled with strong communication and teamwork abilities. This position offers flexible working hours and support for further scientific qualification, including doctoral studies.

Successful technical university degree, preferably in Additive Manufacturing, Laser Technology, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or comparable qualification

Experience

  • Professional experience in planning and conducting experiments in powder bed and filament-based additive manufacturing (MBJ, PBF-LB, MEX)
  • Experience in supporting the planning, application, and execution of publicly funded research projects
  • Experience in data evaluation and documentation of research results
  • Experience in Project Management (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of industrial additive manufacturing processes for metallic materials (advantageous)
