The Aachen Police Headquarters is seeking an IT Investigator/Case Worker to join the Cybercrime Department (Criminal Investigation Department 22). This full-time, permanent role involves providing essential investigative support for cybercrime cases, focusing on deep research within data networks for criminal prosecution, threat defense, and prevention. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing complex network structures and databases, processing mass data, conducting investigations related to Blockchain technologies, and preparing legally admissible documentation for court proceedings. The ideal candidate holds a degree in IT-related fields (e.g., Computer Science, IT Forensics) and possesses strong, current knowledge in computer and internet forensics, various operating systems (Linux, Windows, MacOS), and networking protocols (TCP/IP). This position is attractive for IT professionals seeking a challenging public service role where their technical expertise directly contributes to law enforcement and public safety, requiring high commitment and the ability to clearly communicate complex technical facts.

Required Skills

Education

Completed relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent 'Diplom-Ingenieur') in Computer Science, Communication Technology, Communications Engineering, Electronics / Electrical Engineering, or IT Forensics.

Experience

  • Professional experience in IT investigation and cybercrime support
  • Long-term practical professional experience of at least 3 years (desired for EG 12 classification)
  • Experience in accompanying evidence securing measures on-site during searches
