Job Summary

This is a leadership role within the Technical Building Management Department of the Mettmann District Administration, overseeing the 'Technical Building Equipment' subdivision. The Lead Engineer will be responsible for the comprehensive planning and overall management of new construction, expansion, conversion, renovation, and modernization projects across 85 municipal buildings (approx. 200,000 sqm). Key responsibilities include coordinating technical areas such as sanitary, heating, ventilation, electrical systems, and building automation, while acting as the client representative (Bauherr) and managing external engineers and consultants. The role requires a degree in Supply Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar, coupled with extensive professional experience in construction and project management, and strong leadership skills to guide a team of up to 8 employees. Success in this position demands expertise in German technical regulations (HOAI, VOB) and proficiency in relevant planning and tendering software.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (FH, TU/TH, Bachelor, or Master) in Supply Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy and Building Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Plant Engineering (if relevant expertise is present)

Experience

  • Several years of professional, construction management, and project management experience
  • Professional experience in applying technical regulations (Bauordnung, DIN, VDE norms)
  • Professional experience in public procurement and contract law (HOAI, VOB)
  • Experience in cooperative and goal-oriented leadership and motivation of teams (up to 8 staff)
