Job Summary

This Senior Data Platform Engineer role involves working within Zalando’s Data Repository team, which manages the petabyte-scale Central Data Lake and Mesh. The primary focus is designing, building, and maintaining mission-critical data services and pipelines that materialize event streams, ensuring the security, compliance, and reliability of the entire data platform. You will be instrumental in driving the strategy for world-class data transformation systems, consulting internal teams across the Zalando group on developing sustainable, high-performance, and scalable data integration solutions. Success requires over five years of experience in designing and operating data processing services in production, proficiency with distributed frameworks like Apache Spark, and expertise in languages such as Python, Scala, or Java, alongside strong SQL skills. Candidates must demonstrate a solid track record in applying software development best practices, including Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD), while possessing a deep understanding of distributed data architecture and elastic cloud systems.
