Job Summary

This role is based at the globally leading Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) in Garching near Munich, focusing on experimental astronomy. The successful candidate will join the PANTER X-ray test facility team, which is crucial for missions like ESA's NewATHENA, eXTP, and AXIS. Day-to-day responsibilities include commissioning and characterizing a new microfocus X-ray source, integrating it into the facility control system, and managing the preparation, execution, and documentation of measurement campaigns involving optics, cameras, and sources. The role requires taking responsibility for operating the X-ray test facility, including its vacuum systems, detectors, and X-ray sources, while also supporting the facility's IT infrastructure. The position is ideal for a professional with a background in physics or engineering who is proficient in lab programming (e.g., Python) and comfortable working autonomously within international project teams.
