Job Summary

This leadership role involves heading the Microbiology Water department in Berlin for a leading accredited testing laboratory specializing in food, feed, drinking water, and pharmaceuticals analysis. The Head of Department will provide both technical and disciplinary leadership to a team of 5-10 employees, ensuring high-quality standards are met according to the German Drinking Water Ordinance, relevant norms, and ISO accreditation requirements (DIN EN ISO 17025). Key responsibilities include managing the department budget, optimizing workflows using Lean Management principles, and overseeing resource planning. The successful candidate will also prepare for and manage internal and external audits (including DAkkS), lead departmental projects, and ensure compliance with occupational safety regulations. This position requires a Master's degree in a relevant natural science field, deep knowledge of classical microbiology and quality management, and proven experience in personnel leadership and scaling laboratory operations, making it ideal for an experienced scientific leader ready to drive operational excellence.
