Job Summary

This role is a critical position within the antiinfectives pipeline, focusing on the discovery and development of novel small molecule therapeutics and biologics aimed at treating infectious diseases. The Medicinal Chemist will drive medicinal chemistry strategies from hit identification through to clinical candidate selection within a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. Key responsibilities include the synthesis and optimization of biologically active small molecules, establishing structure-activity (SAR) and structure-property (SPR) relationships through complex data analysis, and exploring new chemical modalities. The ideal candidate holds a doctorate in a relevant chemical field and possesses at least two years of project management experience in medicinal chemistry, coupled with strong expertise in biophysical assays (SPR, fluorescence, NMR, X-ray) and modern synthetic methods. This position requires excellent command of written and spoken English and offers an application-oriented, challenging field of activity at the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology (Leibniz-HKI) in Jena.
