Job Summary
ThüringenForst is seeking a skilled GIS Development Officer to join their Forestry Research and Competence Center in Gotha on a fixed-term contract until December 31, 2027. This role is crucial for managing and advancing the organization's mobile GIS solutions and geodata infrastructure. Day-to-day responsibilities include providing comprehensive service and support for mobile GIS users, developing training materials, conducting workshops, and managing the support hotline. The officer will also be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and programming of geodatabases, data models, and interfaces, ensuring the smooth transition of new procedures into production. A key part of the job involves independently leading GIS development projects, conceptualizing new mobile GIS solutions, and managing UAS (drone) flights and data processing. Candidates must have a degree in Geoinformatics or a comparable field, at least two years of relevant professional experience, and comprehensive knowledge of remote sensing technologies and GIS-supported process modeling. This position offers the chance to contribute directly to the long-term preservation and climate-resilient restructuring of Thuringia's forests.
Required Skills
Education
Bachelor's or Diploma degree in Geoinformatics, Environmental Informatics, or a comparable qualification
Experience
- At least two years of practical professional experience in GIS development
- Comprehensive knowledge in the conceptual modeling of GIS-supported processes
- Comprehensive knowledge of remote sensing technologies, methods, and data sources
- Knowledge of mobile geodata acquisition

- EU Drone Pilot License A1/A3; Class B driving license; Knowledge of procurement law, particularly in the IT/GIS area (desired); Foreign qualifications must include proof of recognition by the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB).
