Job Summary

This is a specialized scientific role focusing on developing and optimizing a novel photo-biohybrid concept for ammonia production within an international, interdisciplinary project. The core responsibility involves designing and characterizing a redox hydrogel-cyanobacteria photobioanode to efficiently supply photosynthetic electrons for cathodic nitrogen fixation. The successful candidate will apply advanced holistic analytics, including microscopy and spectroscopy, to characterize bio-hydrogel interface electron transfer kinetics, and utilize techniques like click chemistry for interface engineering. This position requires a PhD in a relevant field, essential experience with redox hydrogels and their interaction with living systems, and the ability to lead an interdisciplinary project while maintaining excellent communication with international partners. The role offers the chance to publish in high-reputation journals and contribute significantly to global environmental challenges at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig.

Required Skills

Education

PhD in bioorganic chemistry, molecular biotechnology, biochemical engineering or related area

Experience

  • Essential experience with redox hydrogel, its design, characterization, and interface with living systems
  • Essential experience with microscopy and spectroscopy techniques
