Job Summary

This role involves acting as a key advisor and technical expert in environmental management for the Deutsche Bahn's extensive infrastructure projects, ranging from planning through to operational handover. The Specialist will review and guide environmental planning across areas including nature and species protection, water and immission control, and waste management. A core responsibility is ensuring smooth internal and external approval processes by applying relevant railway and public law regulations. The ideal candidate holds a degree in Engineering, Natural Sciences, or a related field, and is either an EBA-recognized Environmental Specialist or willing to achieve this certification. This position is crucial for maintaining the sustainability and compliance of Germany's railway infrastructure, requiring strong communication skills to liaise effectively with project teams, authorities, and planners across multiple simultaneous projects.

Required Skills

Education

University degree in Engineering, Natural Sciences, Environmental Technology, Environmental Management, Environmental Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a comparable field. EBA-recognized Environmental Specialist certification (or willingness to obtain it).

Experience

  • Professional experience in environmental management and/or waste management in construction projects (ideally)
  • Experience in environmental planning using nature conservation instruments (e.g., intervention regulations) (ideally)
  • Experience in consulting project teams from planning start to operational handover
  • Experience in coordinating approval processes with internal and external authorities

Languages

German (Fluent)

Additional

  • Willingness to become an EBA (Federal Railway Authority) recognized Environmental Specialist. Must be able to manage and switch focus between multiple simultaneous projects.
