Job Summary

The Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf is seeking a Biological-Technical Assistant to join the Institute of Plant Biochemistry, focusing on cutting-edge research in molecular plant biology, particularly the molecular basis and evolutionary aspects of photosynthetic carbon dioxide assimilation in land plants and algae. This is a part-time (90%) position offering an engaging and varied role in a state-of-the-art academic environment. Key responsibilities include collaborating on interdisciplinary research projects, operating complex analytical systems, applying modern OMICS techniques (Genomics, Transcriptomics, Metabolomics), and potentially performing bioinformatic analysis of sequencing data. The role also involves laboratory management, equipment maintenance, and contributing to teaching and student training (practicals, seminars). Candidates must have completed training as a Biological-Technical Assistant or hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Biochemistry, coupled with experience in molecular and microbiological methods, protein characterization, and handling cyanobacteria and algae. Strong communication skills and proficiency in both German and English are essential for success in this collaborative research environment.

  • Experience handling Cyanobacteria and Algae
  • Experience in cell culture of autotrophic microorganisms
  • Experience in cultivating experimental plants and operating growth cabinets/climate chambers
  • Experience in extraction, purification, and analysis of small molecules using mass spectrometric and optical-enzymatic methods
