Job Summary
This permanent position seeks a highly organized Research Laboratory Technician to join an interdisciplinary team in Vienna, focusing on soil research and ecosystem analytics. The core responsibilities involve performing complex microbiological and molecular biological tasks, including the cultivation and isolation of microbial communities, DNA/RNA extraction from soil, PCR/dPCR, and sequencing data preparation. A significant part of the role requires independent operation of advanced analytical equipment, specifically High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Gas Chromatography (GC), for analyzing soil metabolites and gases. The technician will also contribute to method development, apply and maintain laser systems for greenhouse gas measurements, and ensure rigorous quality assurance and documentation. Candidates must possess a completed degree or vocational qualification (HTL, BSc, or equivalent) in Biology, Microbiology, or Biochemistry, coupled with strong practical proficiency in molecular biology techniques. Fluency in German (C1) and intermediate English (B2) are required, alongside strong organizational skills and a solution-oriented approach.
Required Skills
Education
Completed vocational training (e.g., HTL, or equivalent) or a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree focusing on Biology, Microbiology, or Biochemistry
Experience
- Professional proficiency in molecular biological methods (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, gel electrophoresis)
- Experience operating and maintaining analytical devices (e.g., HPLC, GC, Element Analyzer, ICP-MS) is advantageous
- Experience with digital PCR (dPCR) is advantageous
- Experience in quality assurance, documentation, and laboratory organization
