Job Summary

This role involves serving as an Environmental Specialist, primarily focusing on coordinating the environmental management system (EMS), including internal audits and supporting external ISO 14001 certifications. Day-to-day tasks include monitoring compliance with environmental laws, such as the Water Resources Act (WHG), Ordinance on Facilities for Handling Substances Hazardous to Water (AwSV), Hazardous Substances Ordinance, and the Closed Substance Cycle and Waste Management Act. The specialist will advise and train departments on legal requirements, new environmental standards, and occupational safety, while acting as the primary liaison with authorities and experts. Key qualifications include a technical or commercial-technical background, preferably as a specialist in circular economy/waste management or chemistry, or a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Process Engineering, or Chemistry. Knowledge of permitting procedures (4. BImSchV) and relevant notification/authorization processes in water protection, immission control, and waste law is essential, alongside initial professional experience in occupational safety.

Required Skills

Education

Commercial-technical training (e.g., Specialist in Circular Economy/Waste Management or Chemical Technician); Advanced training as a Technician or Master Craftsman; Alternatively, Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Process Engineering, or Chemistry

Experience

  • Professional experience in a comparable position or governmental environmental monitoring (ideally several years)
  • Initial professional experience in occupational safety required
