Job Summary

This role is an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to join the 'Simulation and Sensor Systems for Industrial Applications' department at the Materials Research and Testing Institute (MFPA) in Weimar. The primary focus involves developing and implementing multiscale material models to describe electro-mechanical interactions within multiphase, polymer-based nanocomposite materials. Day-to-day tasks include simulating and theoretically analyzing the piezoresistive properties of these materials, building numerical models using tools like Python, Matlab, C/C++, COMSOL, or Abaqus, and actively participating in the experimental validation of models. The position is part of a DFG-funded research project and offers the significant advantage of pursuing further scientific qualification, specifically a PhD, making it ideal for candidates passionate about intelligent sensor technology and interdisciplinary research in advanced materials.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (Master/Diploma) in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering (with specialization in Modeling and Simulation), or a related scientific/natural science field. PhD is possible and desired.

Experience

  • Professional experience in material modeling, multiscale simulation, or micromechanics (desired)
  • Experience in applying Finite Element Methods and coupled field simulation (ideally)
