Job Summary
The Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich is seeking a highly motivated PhD Candidate to join Subproject A03 within the SFB/TRR 425 DEFINE consortium. This part-time (65%) role focuses on investigating the biophysical binding properties of desmosomal cadherins and the signaling pathways following pathogenic stimuli (autoantibodies or cytokines). Day-to-day responsibilities include performing scientific experiments using advanced biophysical methods like Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Single Molecule Force Spectroscopy (SMFS), and STED microscopy, combined with biochemical techniques. The successful candidate will coordinate project-related lab work, analyze and prepare data, and present findings at conferences. This position offers a fully funded, fixed-term contract for 3 years and 9 months, providing access to state-of-the-art research infrastructure and structured doctoral training within a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary, and international research environment in central Munich.
Required Skills
Education
Master's degree (or equivalent qualification) in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine, Biophysics, Bioinformatics, or a related field
Experience
- Practical experience with relevant laboratory-based and analytical methods (Cell culture, microbiology, biochemistry, image analysis)
- Experience with Super-Resolution Microscopy and/or AFM is advantageous
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively in an interdisciplinary team
