Job Summary

This role at the Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine (ITEM) involves addressing complex scientific and regulatory issues concerning various regulations, including REACH, Biocides, and Cosmetics. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, submitting, and defending regulatory dossiers, as well as developing toxicological exposure and risk assessments, incorporating New Approach Methods (NAMs) where applicable. A key component of the job is leading and managing multidisciplinary teams and consortia within national and international public projects for bodies like the EU, EFSA, and ECHA. This position requires close cooperation with international clients and regulatory authorities (e.g., ECHA, FDA), making strong communication and organizational skills essential for navigating the highly regulated environment of applied health research and chemical safety.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (ideally with a doctorate) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a comparable field of study; Specialized further training as a Fachtoxikolog*in (Specialist Toxicologist) is advantageous

Experience

  • Professional experience in (Eco-)Toxicology within a regulatory environment (e.g., REACH, Biocides, CLP, Pharma)
  • Experience in project management and willingness to take on project responsibility
  • Initial experience with Alternative Methods/NAMs (New Approach Methods) is advantageous
  • Experience in utilizing complex IT systems (e.g., SAP) or regulatory software tools (e.g., IUCLID, R4BP3) is advantageous
