Job Summary

The Technical University of Dresden (TUD), an Excellence University, is seeking a Research Associate (Physicist) to join the Institute of Power Engineering. This full-time position, available until December 2028, focuses on developing a detector design for radiographic measurements on transport and storage containers for highly radioactive waste. Key responsibilities include performing Monte Carlo simulations using GEANT4 for gamma and neutron radiation, optimizing collimator and moderator geometries, and determining detector sensitivity to potential fuel shifts. The role also involves conducting comparative laboratory tests, evaluating measurement data from loaded containers, and developing methodologies for reconstructing neutron activity distribution. Candidates must hold a very good university degree (Master's or Diploma) in Physics, possess strong mathematical and physical fundamentals, and have experience with the GEANT4 simulation code. This role offers the opportunity for further scientific qualification, typically leading to a PhD, making it ideal for ambitious early-career physicists.
