Job Summary

The Deutsche Bundesbank is seeking three highly engaged Economists to join its Research Center in Frankfurt am Main. This role involves conducting high-quality scientific research and providing policy advice in critical areas such as monetary policy, financial stability, and banking supervision. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading scientific investigations focused on the 'Future of Finance,' specifically analyzing the impact of AI, digital innovation, CBDCs, stablecoins, geopolitical fragmentation, and demographic change on financial markets and central banking functions. Successful candidates are expected to publish their research in leading academic journals, represent the Bundesbank at conferences, and contribute directly to internal decision-making processes. Key qualifications include an above-average Master's degree in Economics and proven experience in independent scientific work, ideally evidenced by a PhD or publications in top-tier journals. Two positions are offered via a Tenure-Track process, making this an attractive opportunity for career advancement in central bank research.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or equivalent in Economics with an above-average result (overall grade 2.49 or better); PhD or near-completion of a PhD in Economics is highly advantageous for tenure-track positions.

Experience

  • Experience in independent scientific work in 'Future of Finance' topics (e.g., AI, digital payments, non-bank financial intermediaries, geopolitics)
  • Experience evidenced by a PhD, near-completion of a PhD in Economics, or publications/research papers with high publication potential in leading academic journals
