Job Summary

This role involves working as an IT Forensics Specialist within the Central IT Forensics Unit focused on child pornography cases for the Braunschweig Police Directorate. The specialist will independently conduct forensic investigations and analyses of secured data carriers and datasets according to investigative requirements. Key responsibilities include forensically securing data, identifying various EDP devices (computers, mobile phones, navigation devices), recovering and preparing data, and ensuring evidence preservation in data networks. A critical part of the job involves creating detailed forensic IT evidence preservation and examination reports, which must be defended in court as an expert witness. The position also requires providing technical consulting and support to investigative units on appropriate procedures during executive measures (searches, seizures, etc.). Candidates must possess exceptional knowledge of computer technology, networking, various operating systems (Windows, Linux, OSX, Android, iOS), and deep expertise in forensic software tools like Magnet Axiom, X-Ways Forensics, and Cellebrite UFED. This is a full-time, permanent position offering a challenging and vital role in criminal investigation support.

Required Skills

Education

Required for EG 10: Completed vocational training in the IT sector (e.g., IT Specialist in Application Development or System Integration, Technical System Informatics, IT System Merchant, or IT System Electronics Technician). Required for EG 11: Completed relevant university degree (Bachelor / Diploma FH) in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Mathematics, Physics, or comparable field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in IT Forensics and Digital Evidence collection
  • Experience in representing investigation results as an expert witness in court
