Job Summary

This role involves supporting cutting-edge medical and bioscience research within the Electron Microscopy Medical Analysis Core Facility (EMMACF), part of the Medical Imaging Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for essential laboratory operations, including preparing buffer solutions and reagents, and managing general lab organization. A primary focus is the preparation of biological and medical samples for electron microscopy (EM), involving fixation, embedding, trimming, and ultrathin sectioning. Day-to-day tasks also include operating, maintaining, and supervising high-performance EM devices, such as the Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and associated equipment. The assistant will support scientific EM projects, instruct students and users on sample preparation and equipment use, and handle documentation, data archiving, and potential image analysis. This is an attractive, permanent, part-time position (50%) requiring a background in lab assistance (BTA, MTA, CTA or equivalent) and specific experience in EM sample preparation.
