Job Summary

The University of Koblenz is seeking a Biological Technical Assistant (BTA) to join the Aquatic Ecosystem Analysis working group, led by Prof. Dr. Kenneth Dumack, on a permanent, part-time (50%) basis. This role is crucial for supporting research into the diversity, structure, and ecological function of aquatic microbial communities. Day-to-day tasks involve preparing, conducting, and evaluating experimental and field ecological work in aquatic microbiology/protistology, including sample collection in various aquatic habitats. The assistant will be responsible for operating and maintaining sophisticated laboratory and microscopy infrastructure, such as confocal fluorescence microscopy and molecular routine procedures. Key requirements include a completed BTA qualification, experience with microorganisms or aquatic samples, and good knowledge of microscopy and molecular biology methods. The position offers a dynamic environment, contributing to a new professorship established with federal funding, and requires strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Experience

  • Professional experience in laboratory operations, preferably working with microorganisms or aquatic samples
  • Experience in microscopy and/or molecular biological methods
  • Desirable experience in handling fluorescence and image analysis software
