Job Summary

This role involves working as a Research Associate within the Experimental Quantum Optics and Quantum Information research group at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, focusing on advanced quantum physics experiments utilizing cold, neutral atoms. The successful candidate will contribute to high-profile projects like ZEROVAK and BECCAL, which involve developing compact and robust laser and vacuum technologies for quantum sensors intended for space applications, including collaboration with NASA and the International Space Station. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing novel laser and vacuum systems, supporting experimental work, and coordinating efforts with project partners. This position is explicitly designed for scientific qualification, leading to a PhD, and requires a background in experimental physics, optics, and a willingness to work collaboratively with international partners.

Master of Science or equivalent in Physics or comparable field

Experience

  • Experience with experimental work
  • Experience in experimental laser physics and optics (advantageous)
