Job Summary

This role is for an engaged Materials Engineer specializing in Earth Construction, responsible for establishing and driving the sustainable building materials competence area at the Institute for Applied Building Research (IAB) Weimar. Day-to-day tasks involve leading research and development focused on clay materials, earth construction methods, and systems. The specialist will initiate new research topics, generate innovative solutions for industrial applications, and actively prepare national and international project proposals. They will also conduct practical work in the laboratory and technical center, implementing findings through factory and field trials, and representing the subject area externally to partners, clients, and technical committees. Key requirements include a university degree in a relevant material science discipline (e.g., Civil Engineering, Materials Science) and a high interest in ecological building materials and circular economy approaches. Required Skills

Education

University degree in a material-theoretical or building material science focus (e.g., Silicate Technology, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Process Engineering, or similar).

Experience

  • Practical experience in building material development, testing, manufacturing, earth construction, or related fields (desired)
  • Professional experience in taking responsibility and proactively shaping topics
  • Experience in independently building up and advancing new research topics
