Job Summary
This PhD position involves cutting-edge research focused on developing a novel, automated platform for H₂-driven asymmetric catalysis crucial for fine chemical synthesis. The successful candidate will utilize hydrogenases to facilitate efficient biotransformations, aiming for high enantioselectivity. Daily tasks include designing and implementing the automated reaction platform, integrating inline FTIR and NMR spectroscopy for real-time monitoring, and optimizing continuous-flow bioreactor systems, specifically handling molecular hydrogen safely. This role is highly interdisciplinary, sitting at the intersection of biotechnology, chemistry, and process engineering within the Institute for Technical Biocatalysis at TU Hamburg. It requires a completed scientific university degree in a relevant field such as Bioprocess Engineering or Technical Chemistry, coupled with proven expertise in biocatalysis and H₂ utilization, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to sustainable, climate-friendly biotechnological processes while pursuing doctoral studies.
Required Skills

Completed scientific university studies (Master's level equivalent) in Bioprocess Engineering, Process Engineering, Technical Chemistry, Biocatalysis, or Organic Chemistry.
