Job Summary

This role is a unique opportunity for a Postdoctoral Scientist to function as a Research Software Engineer, developing high-performance data analysis solutions for cutting-edge materials science research at the German Engineering Materials Science Centre (GEMS) outstation at DESY in Hamburg. The primary focus is on creating efficient software in Python for analyzing massive datasets generated by the P61A White Beam Engineering Materials Science Beamline, specifically energy-dispersive diffraction data. Key responsibilities include extending the existing P61A Viewer, implementing advanced features like peak identification and fitting, and leveraging metadata for automated analysis of complex multi-dimensional data. The successful candidate will design and document a lean, efficient graphical user interface (GUI) that utilizes multiprocessing and GPU acceleration, ensuring the software is functional on both powerful computing clusters and user laptops during beamtime. This position requires close collaboration with the P61A team and the external user community to define and meet scientific analysis requirements.
