Job Summary

This role seeks two Service Architects to join the Application Operations team at GWDG, a joint IT and computing center for the University of Göttingen and the Max Planck Society. The architects will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of Linux servers, operating and providing 2nd Level Support for application software within containerized environments like Kubernetes (including digital whiteboards, survey software, and microservices). Key responsibilities also include configuring and maintaining monitoring and backup systems, and setting up and adjusting GitLab CI/CD pipelines. The ideal candidate will have a background in IT systems integration or Computer Science, practical experience in Linux/UNIX system administration, and proficiency in Git. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of science and research, contributing to major national research projects (NHR, NFDI) within a supportive and innovative public service environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as an IT Specialist for System Integration or a completed degree (Bachelor or Master) in Computer Science, a technical/natural science-mathematical subject, or equivalent demonstrable practical experience

Experience

  • Practical experience in system administration with Linux/UNIX
  • Knowledge in the operation of applications in Kubernetes (preferred)
  • Knowledge in the operation of applications in Docker (preferred)
  • Experience in Continuous Integration/Deployment (CI/CD) (preferred)

Additional

  • Contract duration is temporary (BEFRISTET); however, the GWDG generally aims for long-term cooperation. Must be willing to work 39 hours per week (full-time, but suitable for part-time).
