Job Summary

The Hessian State Criminal Police Office (HLKA) is seeking a dedicated Case Worker/Technical Assistant for Forensic Textile Analysis to join the Criminal Science and Technical Institute in Wiesbaden. This role, offered at 30 hours per week, focuses on processing forensic investigation orders related to textile evidence. Day-to-day tasks involve searching for and securing trace evidence on various carriers, thoroughly documenting findings, and conducting microscopic, chemical, and physical analyses (e.g., Polarization Microscopy, FTIR Spectroscopy) of textile micro-traces. You will also examine textiles for damage and determine their cause, contribute to equipment maintenance, and manage administrative tasks for laboratory organization. Candidates must have a relevant technical qualification (e.g., Chemical/Biological Technical Assistant or Textile Technician), proven excellent color vision, and fluency in German and English. This position requires a high degree of diligence, responsibility, and the ability to handle potentially stressful evidence, such as blood-stained clothing.

Required Skills

Education

Completed professional training as a Chemical Technical Assistant, Biological Technical Assistant, or Textile Technician (minimum final grade 2.6 or better), or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience in forensic textile trace investigation (desirable)
  • Experience in UV-VIS and FTIR Spectroscopy (desirable)
  • Knowledge of textile fiber production, textile surface manufacturing, and textile finishing (desirable)
  • Microscopy knowledge (desirable)
