Job Summary
The Hochschule Bremen is seeking a Doctoral Researcher to join its Institute for Digital Inclusion, focusing on digital accessibility for people with disabilities in the workplace. This role involves researching, analyzing, and documenting the requirements of individuals with disabilities for software and IT systems. The successful candidate will also develop participatory methods for evaluating workplace software accessibility, scientifically support software development in open-source communities, and publish research findings internationally. Additionally, the position includes teaching duties in Media Informatics and contributing to grant proposals, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to inclusive technology and academic research within a supportive, international environment.
Required Skills
Education
Completed university degree (Master/University Diploma) with an information technology or media design focus
Experience
- Foundational knowledge and experience in research methods (e.g., qualitative and/or participatory research, User Experience/User Research, requirements gathering, Requirements Engineering) and qualitative data analysis
- Foundational knowledge and experience in digital accessibility or barrier-free design
- Experience in Open Source, Free Software, Maker, or similar communities (desirable)
- Programming skills or software development capabilities (desirable)
- Experience with people with disabilities or personal disability/impairment (desirable)

- The position is a qualification position under the BMBFTR-FH-Personnel funding program for the recruitment and qualification of professorial staff at universities of applied sciences. The role is part-time (65% of full-time, 25.48 hours/week) and includes 2 teaching hours per week. The contract is limited to three years. For degrees obtained outside the EU, German translation and evaluation by the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) or an ANABIN PDF excerpt is required. For professional qualifications obtained outside Germany, German translation and recognition in Germany are required. Preference will be given to severely disabled applicants with essentially equal professional and personal suitability.
