Job Summary
This role involves developing and maintaining a critical online application portal for the Max Planck Artificial Intelligence Network (MP-AIX), focusing on recruiting doctoral researchers. The Web Developer will be responsible for implementing new features in coordination with diverse stakeholders, including faculty and scientific coordinators, and refactoring existing code to enhance performance, scalability, and maintainability. Key responsibilities include improving the overall User Interface and User Experience (UI/UX) and ensuring seamless integration with other systems, collaborating closely with the cross-site coordination team. The ideal candidate requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, coupled with expertise in web development, standard web technologies, and MVC frameworks like Ruby on Rails or Laravel. This position offers the chance to work within a leading international research institute in AI, contributing directly to a unique, high-level interdisciplinary doctoral program.
Required Skills
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent qualification/experience
Experience
- Professional experience developing web applications and websites
- Experience with standard web technologies and services
- Experience in Ruby on Rails or a similar MVC-based framework
- Experience with databases and basic SQL knowledge
- Basic knowledge of Git and the Linux CLI
- Ideally, experience with Bootstrap and Google Material Design
- Ideally, experience in gradual refactoring and debugging/monitoring
- Ideally, experience working with GitLab
- Ideally, exposure to web server configuration/administration (nginx)
