Job Summary
This unique opportunity at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Wernigerode seeks a Doctoral Researcher to investigate the emergence, selection, and spread of antibiotic resistance, specifically focusing on Carbapenem-resistant bacteria within the human gut microbiome. The role involves conducting cutting-edge research using modern microbiological and genomic methods, including high-throughput culturomics and single-cell genomics, analyzing complex Mikrobiom and Metagenom data (16S-rRNA and Shotgun), and working with clinical samples in S1/S2 safety labs. The successful candidate will be responsible for publishing scientific findings and presenting research results. Key requirements include a Master's degree in a relevant life science field (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry), demonstrated experience in molecular biological and microbiological techniques, and familiarity with sequencing technologies (Illumina, Oxford Nanopore). Fluency in English (C1) is required, along with basic German (A2) or the willingness to learn. This position is structured as a 65% part-time role over three years, specifically designed to allow the researcher dedicated time to complete their doctoral thesis while contributing to vital public health research.
