Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Research Scientist to pursue a PhD thesis within the Institute of Molecular Virology and Tumor Virology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). The role is integrated into the DZIF-German Center for Infection Research, focusing on opportunistic viral infections in immunocompromised hosts, specifically using cutting-edge human organoid models to study BK-Polyomavirus and associated kidney diseases. Day-to-day tasks involve designing and executing complex experimental studies using 2D and 3D cell culture systems, applying advanced techniques in virology and molecular biology, and collaborating within national and international consortia. Candidates must hold a Master of Science in a relevant life science discipline (e.g., Virology, Molecular Medicine, Cell Biology) and possess hands-on experience or a strong interest in techniques such as organoids, confocal microscopy, and bioinformatics analysis. The position offers structured doctoral training, competitive compensation, and the chance to conduct meaningful translational research.
