Job Summary

This role involves developing, establishing, and validating bioinformatics software solutions and maintaining existing data flows and analysis pipelines for complex genetic data within a university hospital setting. The Bioinformatician will independently analyze sequencing data from various platforms (Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, etc.), integrate large biological databases using API interfaces, and apply machine learning methods for interpreting genetic and phenotypic data. A key focus is on conceptualizing, automating, and validating workflows for Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis. The position requires strong programming skills (Python/R preferred), familiarity with Linux/HPC environments, and experience with workflow tools like Snakemake or Nextflow. The successful candidate will also contribute to scientific publications, grant applications, and manage projects autonomously while adhering to quality management standards. This is a fixed-term contract until July 2027, offering competitive public sector compensation (TV-L EG 13 potential).

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree in Computer Science, Biology, Bioinformatics, Medical Informatics, or a related discipline. Doctorate (PhD) is desired.

Experience

  • Experience in sequencing data analysis (e.g., Targeted Resequencing, RNA-Seq, DNA-Seq)
  • Knowledge in Machine Learning methods is desirable
  • Programming skills in at least one language (e.g., Python, R, Java, Perl)
  • Experience with Pipeline and Workflow Tools (e.g., Snakemake, Nextflow)
  • Experience with Version Control Systems (GitHub, GitLab)

Additional

  • Fixed-term contract until July 31, 2027. Full-time or part-time employment (minimum 30 hours per week). Basic knowledge of data protection and data security regarding genetic data is required. Knowledge of Medical Informatics standards (e.g., FHIR) is beneficial.
