Job Summary

This role involves joining the National Reference Centre for Hepatitis B and D Viruses at Justus Liebig University Giessen, focusing on critical global health issues related to HBV and HDV infections. The Biologist will be responsible for designing and executing virological infection assays in a high-containment S3** safety laboratory, utilizing various human and animal HBV/HDV isolates. Key activities include cloning and producing viral genomes, investigating replication mechanisms using biochemical, molecular, and microscopy techniques (including laser scanning microscopy), and optimizing diagnostic detection methods. The ideal candidate possesses a university degree in a relevant life science field, strong expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, and virological methods, and documented experience handling infectious agents. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to an established, internationally recognized virological research group focusing on viral infectivity, replication, and inhibition by novel antiviral drugs.

Experience

  • Professional experience in biochemical, molecular biological, and virological working methods
  • Experience in the safe handling of human or animal pathogenic hepatitis B and D viruses
  • Experience in the generation, production, and purification of recombinant HBV/HDV in cell culture
  • Experience in cloning and expression of viral or cellular genes in vitro
