Research Associate (PhD Track) in Physical Chemistry | Wissenschaftliche*n Mitarbeiter*in mit Zielrichtung Promotion am Institut für Physikalische Chemie
Christian-Albrechts- Universität zu Kiel (CAU)
Job Summary
This position offers a motivated Research Associate the opportunity to pursue a PhD at the Institute of Physical Chemistry at Kiel University, focusing on cutting-edge research in surface reaction mechanisms. The core project involves advancing the unique Near-Ambient Pressure Velocity Map Imaging (NAP-VMI) technique, developed by the Harding research group, to study catalytic surface reactions at elevated pressures and extend its use to wet surfaces. Day-to-day tasks blend theoretical design and practical execution, including CAD drawing, simulating ion optics, assembling mechanical components, and planning/conducting complex laser experiments to test and utilize the new system. The ultimate goal is to generate crucial benchmark data on reaction kinetics and dynamics, providing essential input for theoretical studies and modeling of complex atmospheric and industrial catalytic systems. Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Physical Chemistry or Physics and ideally bring practical experience in surface chemistry or molecular beam methods, alongside strong German and English language skills.
