Job Summary
The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany's national metrology institute, is seeking a Doctoral Researcher in Physics for the 'Time and Frequency' department in Braunschweig. This role focuses on advancing optical clock technology by developing the 173Yb+ isotope, building upon successful work with 171Yb+. Key responsibilities include automating clock operations, investigating stability improvements using multi-ion interrogation and entanglement, developing protocols for hyperfine transitions, and determining systematic frequency shifts. The researcher will also expand existing Python-based experiment control systems (ARTIQ) and laser setups. This is a unique opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in precision metrology within an internationally renowned team, benefiting from excellent infrastructure and dedicated doctoral supervision without the burden of teaching duties.
