Job Summary

This is a pivotal leadership opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer to head the Bridge and Structural Engineering Department within the Public Works and Transport division. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and coordinating a team of five, overseeing the entire lifecycle of municipal bridge projects, from long-term construction program planning and financial oversight to execution. Key daily tasks involve managing the construction budget, supervising external engineering firms through all phases (LPH 1-9), preparing detailed tender documents, conducting construction supervision for both new builds and maintenance, and creating planning approval documentation. The role requires a degree in Civil Engineering, significant professional experience in structural engineering—particularly bridge construction design, tendering, and supervision—and deep knowledge of German regulatory frameworks (ZTV-ING, HOAI, VOB). The position offers the stability of public service (TVöD EG 12), 30 days of vacation, flexible working models including mobile work, and opportunities for continuous professional development.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Dipl.-Ing. (FH) or Bachelor) in Civil Engineering, preferably with a constructive focus on bridge construction.

Experience

  • Professional experience in structural engineering, preferably bridge construction
  • Experience in design, tendering, and construction supervision
  • Experience in drafting engineering contracts and supervising external engineering firms
  • Knowledge in structural inspection (Bauwerksprüfung) is ideal
  • Experience in public administration (desirable)
