Job Summary

This role is a fixed-term parental leave cover until November 2026 within the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt) in Berlin, focusing on Environmental Medicine and Health Assessment. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing, evaluating, and documenting medical laboratory tests related to environment and health, strictly adhering to guidelines like GLP and safety protocols. Key daily tasks include taking samples (fine dust, pollen, mold spores) using specialized equipment, conducting cell culture and blood sample analyses, and managing laboratory administration, including ordering and inventory control. This position requires a completed vocational training as a Technical Assistant or Laboratory Technician (Biology, Chemistry, or Medical Laboratory Analysis), strong practical experience in scientific lab methods, and proficiency in German and English. It offers the stability of public service and the opportunity to work on current, socially relevant topics concerning the health impacts of environmental factors within an interdisciplinary team.

Experience

  • Completed vocational training as a Biological/Chemical Technical Assistant, or Biology/Chemistry Laboratory Technician, or Medical Laboratory Technologist for Laboratory Analysis
  • Experience in scientific laboratory methods applicable to environmental health tasks
  • Practical experience in a research laboratory (Desirable)
  • Prior experience with whole blood and cell culture examinations (Desirable)
  • Experience in the maintenance and handling of technical equipment used in medical research laboratories (Desirable)
