Job Summary
This role is for a Research Associate in Information Technology to join the AkWamo project at the Thünen Institute of Forest Ecosystems. The successful candidate will be crucial in developing and maintaining the IT infrastructure for analyzing large bio-acoustic datasets gathered for nationwide forest monitoring. Day-to-day tasks involve the continued development of a web portal for audio data upload and storage, building and optimizing a relational database with a web interface, and implementing algorithms for pattern recognition and data visualization. You will also be responsible for processing acoustic data for integration into national forest surveys and optimizing the overall project workflow. This position requires a Master's degree in IT or a related field with strong IT expertise, proficiency in web portal programming, modern front-end frameworks, SQL, and server administration. It offers the opportunity to contribute to significant environmental research and policy-relevant topics within a flexible, interdisciplinary research environment.
Required Skills
Education
Completed university degree (Master's or equivalent Diploma) in Computer Science or Information Technology, or in Environmental, Geo-, or Forest Sciences with proven IT experience.
