Job Summary

This doctoral researcher position at the Fraunhofer IME focuses on revolutionizing meat production by developing scalable in vitro cell culture techniques for cultivated meat. The successful candidate will concentrate on designing and optimizing 3D scaffolds, hydrogels, and bioreactors critical for efficient cell attachment and differentiation, utilizing modified plant virus nanoparticles. Day-to-day tasks include conducting 3D cell cultures, analyzing cell proliferation and differentiation, and developing the overall production process using novel bioreactor technology. This role requires a Master's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., Cell Biology, Biotechnology) and offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to sustainable food technology, publish scientific papers, file patents, and mentor junior students within an interdisciplinary, international research environment.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Cell Biology, Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related natural science/technical field

Experience

  • Scientific understanding of scaffold development and cell culture processes
  • Prior knowledge of bioreactors and process optimization (advantageous)
  • Experience with analytical skills and imaging techniques
  • Experience in supervising Bachelor's and Master's students
